2009 Ferrari-Carano Zinfandel
Estate Vineyard - Dry Creek ValleyBuy Now
Deep purple in color with rich layers of fruit complexity. Aromas of fresh, hand-picked blackberries are complemented by nuances of baking spices, cedar, black tea, and clove that open slowly. A thick, rich mouthfeel bursting with wild berry preserves and ripe Bing cherry delight and contrast with delicate tannins and notes of milk chocolate, vanilla bean and espresso roast on the finish.
Zinfandel grapes are dry farmed in a complex, riverside clay loam soil that is rocky and deep, adding impressive depth and concentration of flavor intensity to the wine. A moderate summer in 2009 had our estate Zinfandel grapes hanging on the vine up to two weeks later than usual. 2009 was a fantastic year for early ripening varieties and the result is not only vibrant and expressive wine, but one with great richness and elegance.
This wine is primarily composed of Zinfandel, blended with small amounts of Petite Sirah and Carignane. Upon entering the winery, the hand-harvested grapes are destemmed, hand sorted and then whole berries are fermented in tank before pressing. Individual lots are moved to barrels, then blended and barrel aged in French and American oak for 16 months prior to bottling, and aged another seven months before being released.
