2010 Ferrari-Carano Sky High Ranch Pinot NoirMendocino Ridge
This superbly crafted wine boasts aromas of black cherry compote, pie crust, fresh herb and toast, with full, explosive berry flavors of blackberry pie and boysenberry, with cocoa, vanilla and a hint of toasty oak on the finish. This wine's velvety texture and dazzling complexity are underscored by bright acidity, creating a naturally-balanced wine with a lingering, rich finish.
Mendocino Ridge is a unique appellation comprised of three ridge tops above the fog at elevations of over 1,200 feet. Record rainfall in the spring was followed by a record mild summer, July being the coolest it’s been in 50 years. The happy result was deliciously flavored and well-balanced Pinot Noir grapes. Harvest began mid-September and was completed late October.
Upon entering the winery, the hand-picked Pinot Noir grapes are hand sorted and gently destemmed. The grapes are cold soaked for two to three days and fermented in small bins and stainless steel open top fermentors. Various yeast strains are introduced to add complexity. The wines are gently pressed to barrel and aged for 18 months in new and neutral French oak barrels.
Our Sky High Ranch Pinot Noir is a seductive, aromatic wine that pairs well with salmon, fowl and meat entrees such rack of lamb and Beef Bourguignon.
