The 2012 Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay has superior lots of wine from our vineyards in Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys as well as Carneros. This full-bodied wine boasts aromas of apple, citrus, pear and marshmallow perfectly balanced by flavors of quince, peach, lemon and hazelnut with lingering, creamy toasted oak notes.

Medium light golden yellow, attractive forward apple and white peach aroma with a note of citrus. Medium to medium full body, fleshy, lemony, pear and apple flavors with bright acidity and a slight creaminess in the texture. Very highly recommended.

There are lots of buttered toast and popcorn flavors in this Chardonnay, but the underlying tropical fruits and pears are strong enough to stand up to them. It’s a decadent wine to drink with richly sauced shellfish dishes.

Vintage Notes

Overall, 2012 was a very good year with ideal weather conditions for the vines. Spring produced great set and average rainfall led to normal and above-normal yields. Consistently warm temperatures during the summer months without any heat spikes or major rain events allowed for longer “hang time” leading to fully ripe flavors.

Winemaker Notes

Over 60 individual Chardonnay lots are gently destemmed, pressed, then cold settled for two days in stainless steel tanks before moving to barrels for fermentation. Aged separately in French oak, the wine completes 96 percent malolactic fermentation, then is sur lie aged and stirred every two weeks until blending.
