Our Mountain Vineyards

Soaring in elevation from 700 to 1,200 feet, Ferrari-Carano's two mountain vineyards are located in Alexander Valley. LookOut Mountain is uniquely situated at the conjunction of Alexander Valley, Knights Valley and Chalk Hill appellations, while RockRise Mountain and Ferrari-Carano's Mountain Winery Estate are located high above Geyserville.

These vineyards have the ideal "terroir" for growing superior red wine grapes - the perfect combination of soil, climate, row direction, slope and aspect. The soil on these hillside and mountain top vineyards are less fertile, shallower and rockier than the valley floor and bench lands vineyards, where the soil is deep and fertile -- perfect for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec, and Sangiovese.
