2008 Viognier - Alexander Valley [ $22 SOLD OUT! ] BUY THIS WINE
A Rhone grape varietal hailing originally from France, our brand new, 2008 Ferrari-Carano Viognier is comprised of grapes from a single vineyard on our mountain ranch in Alexander Valley. Faring much better in warmer climates and typically known as a difficult grape varietal to grow because of its susceptibility to mildew, Viognier grapes are picked when fully ripe and the grapes have a deep-yellow color and strong, rich aromas. Our full-bodied Viognier has delicious, ripe aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, pear, melon, lychee, peach, vanilla, honey, and almond.

Vintage Notes
The grapes for this wine come from a single vineyard on our mountain ranch in Alexander Valley. A year of fire and ice, we began 2008 battling heavy frost in April, fires in the summer, and heat in the early fall. Reduced yields but intensely flavored, well-balanced, ripe fruit was the happy result of a very challenging growing season. Harvest began late-August and was completed the beginning of September — 2008 being one of the fastest harvests we can remember.

Winemakers Notes
The hand-harvested Viognier grapes are gently whole cluster pressed and then cold settled for two days in stainless steel tanks before moving the barrels. Aged in new and older French oak, the wine is sur lie aged and stirred every week until bottled.
