Associate Winemaker, Red Wines
“I’m looking forward to working with Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the numerous varietals grown on our ranches. Our vineyard sites with many different elevations and exposures provide unique diversity in our wines.”
Christy Ackerman graduated in 2001 with an enology degree from California State University Fresno. Christy was drawn to winemaking because it is chemistry and art combined, and also because it’s very hands on. Christy began her career in winemaking as a harvest intern at Murphy Goode for one season, then moved on to Jordan Winery in 2001 as Assistant Winemaker. In 2006, Christy joined the winemaking team at Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery as Associate Winemaker, where she worked on Ferrari-Carano’s Russian River Valley and Anderson Valley Pinot Noirs. In 2008, Christy became Winemaker at Lazy Creek Vineyards, a winery that Don and Rhonda Carano had purchased. During her tenure at LCV, Christy and her team accomplished quite a bit:
- Implemented and received Certified California Sustainable Winery certification in 2014
- Modernization of the estate and winery facilities, including planning, design, construction and execution of the bottling facility and barrel storage cave
- Achieved numerous accolades and wine awards for LCV’s pinot noirs, as well as Ferrari-Carano’s pinot noirs
After the sale of the LCV property in the spring of 2019, Christy became Associate Winemaker, Red Wines, at Ferrari-Carano. In this position, Christy oversees production of Ferrari-Carano’s red wines with vineyards on 21-estate mountain and valley ranches in Sonoma County. Working closely with consulting winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, Christy leads a talented and dedicated team at the mountain winemaking facility, which houses a new production building especially for premium red wines.
