Steve Domenichelli

Director of Vineyard Operations

“In order to provide the most attention and detail to every vine and vineyard, we need to be intimate with the land”

A fourth-generation farmer and Sonoma County native, Steve’s knowledge of the land is unparalleled. He orchestrates Ferrari-Carano’s entire vineyard operation in five appellations (over 1,700 acres), utilizing labor intensive practices with certified sustainable farming techniques (all of Ferrari-Carano’s 24 estate ranches are CSWA certified).

Steve grew up in orchards and vineyards, joining Ferrari-Carano in 1987 at age 21. Since he joined the team, the winery and vineyards have grown exponentially in size and reputation. “In order to provide the most attention and detail to every vine and vineyard, we need to be intimate with the land,” Steve explains. “We communicate well and work together as one, well-oiled machine.” The vineyard crew members have been on the team nearly as long as Steve, and are like family. “We know each unique environment on every ranch and know how the vines respond and apply the appropriate techniques necessary.”

Along with farming, Steve was steeped in a family tradition of cooking, calling the kitchen his “next favorite place to be after the vineyards.” Some of his favorite childhood memories are of hours spent in his Noni’s kitchen, listening to his elders share stories from Italy. Steve enjoys gardening and canning fruits and vegetables with his family.
