Don’s Tried & True Beans

One of Don Carano’s favorite dishes to make on a cold evening at home, these beans truly are tried and true. Serve with Italian sausages, or simply crusty French bread and a glass of FC Zinfandel.
Soak beans overnight in cold water. Drain and rinse.
In a medium pot, saute bacon, onion and garlic. Add beans and cover with water or chicken broth. Add two chicken bouillon cubes if using water.
Cover & Cook
Add sage, red pepper, chili powder, sugar, salt and pepper. Cover and cook over medium heat 45 minutes or until beans are tender. Add Worcestershire sauce and adjust seasonings. Serve with Italian sweet sausages, French bread and Ferrari-Carano Zinfandel.
