Aromas & Flavors

SIENA has delicious aromas of raspberry jam, bacon, maple, leather and cardamom spice. Flavors of sweet plums and cherries are followed by graham cracker with more plum on the finish. SIENA has supple tannins and a balanced mouthfeel with lively elegance and depth.

Food Pairings

SIENA pairs perfectly with savory Italian food, like pasta with flavorful tomato sauces or pizza. SIENA is also delicious with dishes like chicken cacciatore, duck salad with raspberries or oranges, or simply prosciutto on crostini bread.

How It's Made

Select lots of grapes from our vineyards in Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys are harvested and destemmed, then hand sorted and fed directly into stainless steel tanks for three days of cold soaking. After cold soaking, yeast is added and pump overs commence, one to two times daily, for the duration of primary fermentation. When fermentation is complete, the wine is drained and pressed to barrels for malolactic fermentation and 14 months of cave aging before bottling.

The Vintage

A dry winter led to early bud break with unfavorable weather during bloom that disrupted the pollination process and resulted in a reduction of crop yields. Spring and summer were warm and dry, and the first grapes were harvested a week and a half earlier than 2014, making it one the earliest harvests ever. With reduced yields and plenty of warm sunshine to ripen the grapes, this year’s wines are concentrated in aromas and flavors, and display great color and balanced tannins.
