These big, bold reds are perfect for toasting Dad on his special day
June is here and it’s time to celebrate the dads in our lives. What better way to celebrate Father’s Day than some outdoor grilling paired with big, bold Ferrari-Carano red wines? Whether Dad is into juicy ribeyes, savory salmon filets, or vegetarian fare, there’s a Ferrari-Carano wine that perfectly pairs with both dad jokes and whatever you’re having at your Father’s Day feast.
He’ll be the first to tell you, your dad deserves double gold. This velvety, easy-drinking Merlot won Double Gold at the San Francisco 2021 Wine Competition. The 2018 Merlot has a complex nose of plum, cherry and black peppercorn integrated with flavors of black huckleberries, dried currants, leather and clove. This medium-body, well-balanced wine is made from grapes from our cool-climate valley floor and mountain top vineyards in Sonoma County.
Our Merlot pairs nicely with many dishes and really shines with dad’s favorite barbecued meats (think lamb, pork, or beef) and herbed poultry on the grill. Additionally, the Merlot can be served with a first course of blue cheese or a salad featuring berries and gorgonzola cheese. Main dishes can be heavy on garlic or also include savory mushrooms, these flavors will make the complimenting flavors of the wine really pop.
Is your dad vegetarian? We’ve got him covered! There’s no need to sacrifice flavor when creating a veggie-friendly menu for Father’s Day. Since your dad is such a treasure, treat him to Ferrari-Carano’s “Trésor,” a Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux-style blend, rated 93 points by Wine Spectator. Bordeaux-style wines are known for their characteristic varietals and Trésor is a blend of all five of those grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc from the best selections of our vineyards in Alexander, Napa, Dry Creek, and Russian River Valleys. This elegant wine boasts aromas of dried blueberry, dark plum, chocolate, toffee, caramel, black cherry, and molasses.
We recommend pairing Trésor with our recipe for Spaghetti alla Puttanesca. Our recipe is a classic take on this simple, yet delicious, Italian favorite. This dish features salty capers, and black olives balanced by savory garlic, spicy chili flakes, and the lightness of basil and parsley. All of these flavors together in the spaghetti hold up to the fruit-forward flavors of Trésor.
We recommend buying a bottle (or two) for the Father’s Day meal and gift dad a few bottles to save since this wine ages nicely and will drink well for seven to ten years.
For the ultimate treat for Father’s Day, our PreVail Back Forty is the wine that’s sure to impress. Made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from low-yielding vines from a 40-acre high elevation vineyard on the backside of Ferrari-Carano’s Rock Rise Mountain in Alexander Valley. These grapes create a full-bodied, delicious wine with intense aromas and flavors of jammy berries, cassis, dark chocolate, nutmeg, leather, and vanilla. Don’t just take our word for it, this stellar wine earned 93 points from The Wine Advocate and 90 points from Wine Enthusiast.
Back Forty pairs nicely with barbecued and grilled red meats, its intense flavors standing up to rich steaks. We recommend taking over the grilling duties from dad and grilling up a ribeye steak, a lamb or treating him to filet mignon. Take it from us and become the hero of Father’s day with our recipe for filet mignon with spring onion bordelaise. This decadent dish incorporates savory herbs and spices with caramelized onions to enhance a perfectly cooked filet.
If cooking isn’t your thing, get dad what he wants; a Ferrari-Carano Wine Club membership. With five different membership options available, there’s a club membership that will fit him perfectly. Wine Club members have access to special discounts throughout the year, invitations to exclusive events, private tours, and personalized concierge services while visiting the winery.
Don’t forget dad this June and let Ferrari-Carano make this Father’s Day one to remember. Shop our red wines or stop by the tasting room to find that perfect bottle for dad, he deserves it.
